Sthapatya Veda...
All of our homes are built utilizing the knowledge of Sthapatya Veda.
Sthapatya Veda, one of the 40 books of Vedic Literature, stems from the ancient Vedic civilization of over 5,000 years ago in India. Sthapatya Veda is the science and technology of establishing every individual home in harmony with the universe. Sthapatya Vedic design puts every component of the home in its proper place so that no individual structure is out of alignment with the whole cosmic structure. Also, the holistic harmony, which permeates all components of the physiology, is established through Sthapatya Veda.
Vastu, a main aspect of Sthapatya Veda, refers to the home and space around it much like the aura is to our human physiology.
The knowledge of Feng Shui has its roots in Sthapatya Veda.

Sthapatya Veda can be explained by 4 basic principles:
- Proper Direction
- Proper Position
- Proper Proportion
- Proper Location
|

The Proper Direction:
The proper direction of the home starts with the foundation being set in alignment with the cardinal directions. The neurons in our brain actually fire differently depending on what direction we are facing indicating the impact directions have on our lives. To determine true north for an area you can go to the National Geophysical Data center.

Traditionally, to establish a perfect orientation, a sun reading was taken with a Shanku Stapan. It is likened to a sun dial.
The Proper Position:
As the sun rises and sets across the sky, it radiates different qualities of energy that produce specific influences on our physiology as well as the space in which we live and work. These energies correspond to specific activities performed within the different rooms of a house; therefore there is an ideal place for the entrances, the kitchen, dining room etc. It is important to place each room of the home in its proper location according to its function so that, for example, you do not become hungry in the bedroom or sleepy in the dining room.
The Proper Proportion:
Everything in Nature is properly proportioned according to its function. Every part of the human body is not only properly placed, it is precisely proportioned for its function, and any deviation from this creates imbalances and consequent problems. The knowledge of Sthapatya Veda takes advantage of these cosmic proportions with reference to the individual physiology and our living quarters.
The Proper Location:
The proper location is mainly determined by how soon after sunrise the sun is seen from the proposed building site. The morning sun needs to be seen within 45 minutes of sunrise; therefore, land sloping west where the sun is not seen within 45 minutes of sunrise would not be considered a proper location. The closer to sunrise the sun is seen on the land the better. Generally, west and south slopes are not desirable building sites. Another aspect to look for when choosing the proper location of a building site is a body of water. When near a flowing body of water, it is best to be on the side where the water flows clockwise. There are many aspects to consider when choosing the building site. We build only on land that has proper location.
